For 46 years, R&D Magazine has recognised excellence in laboratory design, materials and construction through its Laboratory of the Year competition. The 2013 winner was Singapore's Campus for Research Excellence and Technological Enterprise (CREATE).
Durcon Incorporated supplied the epoxy resin worksurfaces installed throughout the facility in conjunction with its team in Malaysia, who won the job and provided technical assistance from specification through installation.
CREATE is an international research campus and innovation hub, home to the National Research Foundation, interdisciplinary research centres from top universities and corporate laboratories such as the Singapore-MIT Alliance for Research and Technology (SMART) and the SAP Singapore Research Centre, as well as technology incubators and start-ups.
The award was announced at the Laboratory Design Conference in Houston in April 2013, where the project team from Perkins+Will was honoured. The judging panel comprises architects, laboratory planners, construction project managers, a vendor representative from SEFA, co-sponsor of the competition, and the editors of R&D Magazine and Laboratory Design Newsletter.
